RID is a public intervention, performed site-specifically in several iterations.
A contemplative, durational piece in which the public audience happens upon a figure clad in black, face veiled, sitting backward in a chair. Her back is exposed as well as the skin of her arms and legs. A short distance away is another chair, tied to the first with a clothesline of twine. On this chair are jars: one filled with water and old slips of paper, one empty save for fresh slips of paper, and the third with black Sharpie markers. Instructions:
1. take an unmarked slip of paper.
2. write something you want to be rid of.
3. leave it in the jar for the next person.
4. take a slip of paper that’s been marked by someone else who has come by before you.
5. write what they have marked anywhere on the body ready to receive it.
6. drop this paper in the waiting jar of water.
put it on me.
be rid of it.
i’ll carry it.
for you.
